CDOM Spatiotemporal Variability in the Mediterranean Sea: A Modelling Study

چکیده
This study investigates the spatial and temporal variability of chromophoric-dissolved organic matter (CDOM) in Mediterranean Sea. The analysis is carried out using a state-of-the-art 3D biogeochemical model. model describes plankton dynamics, cycles most important limiting nutrients, particulate dissolved pools carbon. source CDOM directly correlated to dynamics carbon (DOC) by fixed production quota. Then degrades photobleaching remineralization. main innovation system inclusion bio-optical radiative transfer that computes surface upwelling irradiance, therefore simulates remotely sensed reflectance (Rrs). Simulation results three configurations are evaluated satellite Rrs, particularly at 412 nm, 443 490 nm. All simulations show winter minimum Rrs for considered bands. However, different parameterizations DOC-release induce accumulation CDOM, especially eastern Mediterranean, signature: more active microbial loop during summer implies decrease We demonstrate how usage allows us corroborate hypotheses on CDOM-cycling based blue–violet data, supporting importance this complementary data stream with respect satellite-derived chlorophyll.

Spatiotemporal variability of alkalinity in the Mediterranean Sea
The paper provides a basin-scale assessment of the spatiotemporal distribution of alkalinity in the Mediterranean Sea. The assessment is made by integrating the available observations into a 3-D transport–biogeochemical model. The results indicate the presence of complex spatial patterns: a marked west-to-east surface gradient of alkalinity is coupled to secondary negative gradients: (1) from m...
متن کاملSeasonal variability in the Central Mediterranean Sea circulation
A high resolution eddy-resolving primitive equation numerical model, based on the Princeton Ocean Model (POM), is used to study the seasonal variability of the general circulation in the Central Mediterranean Sea. The model is run on a seasonal cycle, perpetual year simulation for five years, with nesting to the coarser resolution Ocean General Circulation Model (OGCM), covering the whole Medit...
متن کاملSurface heat fluxes and ecosystem function in the Cretan Sea (eastern Mediterranean): a modelling study
As a component of the Mediterranean Forecast System Pilot Project, a data buoy was deployed in the Cretan Sea. A 1-D ecosystem model of the site has been used to investigate the role of surface heat fluxes in determining modelled ecosystem behaviour. The method of calculation of these fluxes, the quality of the data used, and the temporal resolution of the data all had an impact upon the modell...
متن کاملNatural variability of hepatic biomarkers in Mediterranean deep-sea organisms.
Biomarker assays are widely used as proxies for contaminant-induced effects in aquatic organisms. However, in many cases, their intrinsic natural variability due to exogenous and endogenous factors makes the interpretation of biomarker data difficult. In the present study, we investigated the natural fluctuations of six hepatic biomarkers, namely ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase (EROD) in fish and ...
متن کاملSpatiotemporal Characterization of Chromophoric Dissolved Organic Matter (CDOM) and CDOM-DOC Relationships for Highly-Polluted River
Spectral characteristics of CDOM in water column are a key parameter for bio-optical modeling. Knowledge of CDOM optical properties and spatial discrepancy based on the relationship between water quality and spectral parameters in Yinma River watershed with in situ data collected highly-polluted waters are exhibited in this study. Seasonal field data sets collected over a period of 2 months in ...
